The Inspiration...

This is not a 'poor me' lonely girl's blog, nor is it a testament to the fabulous single life. It's not even a 21st century homage to Sex and the City.  It is simply the honest, everyday ups and downs of single life.

With so many blogs dedicated to motherhood and families and DIY projects, I feel that there's a void in the blogosphere for single women. Our voices are hidden behind book reviews, fashion reports, and chalkboard decor. We've lost the supportive community because, as single women, we're often hesitant to admit that it's not always so easy to be independent...and that we don't always want to have to be independent. Maybe it's that we're afraid to admit our loneliness at times or fear rejection in writing honestly about what some would label unfulfilled or empty lives. Or maybe we simply don't want to become a cliche of the neurotic, desperately seeking single woman stereotype that pop culture has perpetuated ever since Carrie Bradshaw got into Mr. Big's car.

I am not here to gloat about my freedom as a single woman, to share all of my dating blunders (some are best kept to myself), or to use this blog as a path to acceptance of my single status. You're just going to hear stories, some good, some bad, some hysterical, about the life and times of a real single girl. There won't be fancy high heels or a chic urban setting (thanks to my lucrative teacher salary). But there will be laughs and loneliness, and always great stories.
